Mommy Fail #141: Taking my toddler to a sports bar

I generally try not to take my baby to places that aren't really for kids.  But sometimes, I don't have a choice.  Like a couple nights ago: we got busy, and then had to run to a friend's house who is in the middle of serious renovations.  Before we knew it, it was 8 p.m. and nobody had eaten.  So our friend suggested the place that's right down the street from his house, which happens to be a sports bar right across from the local university.

I was a little surprised to see that they had high chairs, especially considering that all of the tables in the entire place were bar height with stools.

Little Spaghetti wasn't too thrilled with his short seat, but I found it very convenient to just be able to push him under the table when the server came with the food.  That way I didn't have to worry about hot food getting spilled on him.

Don't worry: I took him out of there to eat dinner.  I'm not THAT mean.

  1. It's not really a failure so don't feel bad for it too much lol. Nice post, keep them coming. :)

  4. Ha ha ha! I love his facial expression - it reminds me of the Tasmanian Devil when he said "whyfore you bury me in the cold, cold ground?" Guess Little Spaghetti's thinking "whyfore you push me under the cold, cold table?" Soooo cute!

  6. Awww he looks like he's trying to escape the madness. I thought you were going to say you wanted him to not see the server because it was some girl in a very low cut top and short skirt.

  7. Nope, this is a Mommy Win!! I take my toddler to bars all the time. The perk is they are loud so no one is going to complain about the noise your little guy might be making! Bet he had a blast, too!

  8. All I can think about is Sweet Home Alabama when Reese Witherspoon says "You have a baby! In a bar!" hehehe!

    This made me laugh! Thank you!

  9. Don't beat yourself up. It's not a failure.
    Now, if the title was, "Taking My Toddler to a Nudie Bar", you might have to worry about Child Protective Services.

  10. @Yeamie: Ah, no worries. "Mommy fail" is all in good fun. I like to be able to laugh at myself.

    @Sentence: I like to think so!

    @Marina: Yeah...I'm pretty sure that's what was going through his head.

    @Crystal: Lol! The Tasmanian Devil!

    @Inner Chick: Only for a second...

    @Mark: That would also have been good reasoning. But our server was a guy, so I didn't have to worry.

    @Sarah: Haha! I love that. I'd never thought of it that way.

    @Momnextdoor: Haha! I totally thought of that, too!

    @Damon: Thanks.

    @Al: Thanks for the tip! I will try and remember to avoid nudie bars!

  12. That would be terrible (but hilarious) to see a parent feeding their kid under a table.

    Actually I'm not sure who'd be more embarrassed.

  13. Um, yeah, I totally take my kid to a sports bar. In fact, it was really hard right after Wee 'Burb was born. We made plans to go to a bar in WI near my sister-in-law's cabin...didn't realize there wasn't a smoking ban there yet! So, yeah, baby's first sports bar and her first cigarette. She loves the ESPN, man!

  14. As long as they have a kids menu and crayons, I'm good.

  15. As long as you didn't give him beer and a cigarette, I don't think you're a bad mother for taking him to a sports bar. These are the kind of times that will give you funny stories to share at future family dinners. :)
