Sick as dogs...

Where did that saying come from anyway?  I've never met that many dogs who were particularly sick.

Anyway, we're sick over here.  Well, most of us.  I'm not (*knock on wood*).  At least not yet.  But I've had a feverish, unhappy, non-sleeping little guy for five days now.  So, you'll have to excuse my absence.

But I'd really like someone to explain to me the math behind how sickness causes the amount of laundry in a household to multiply exponentially.  I think we have more laundry laying around right now than we had clothes to begin with.  How?

Thankfully, we've got some antibiotics as of this evening, so I'm hoping things look up soon.

Not so thankfully, this means we've had absolutely no progress on the bathroom.  And here I'd promised myself that we'd have a functioning tub and shower by today.  Ha!

Also, it's going to be -15 degrees tonight where I live.  It is so cold.  So. Cold.

So, friends, my wish for you this evening is to be the opposite of the Spaghettis: stay warm and stay healthy.  I'll be back shortly.

Mama always said, "If you don't have something nice to say..."

When the bulk of the feedback about your job (aka being a mom) comes from a three year old, you'll take what you can get.  While "I love yous" and kisses are wonderful, there's something even more rewarding about hearing first-hand that you're doing something well.

Somewhere along the line, Little Spaghetti picked up complimenting my outfits.  He'll tell me, "Mom, you look pretty!"  And on the rare occasions that I put on makeup, he's said things like, "Mom...your eyes!"

Then there are days when he says, "I don't like you when you wear that shirt."  Well, you can't win 'em all, can you?

I decided to see if we could expand the compliments (though hopefully not the complaints) beyond my wardrobe.  So I taught him this:

In case you didn't catch that, he's saying "Delizioso!" I'll make an Italian out of him yet. And hopefully there will one day be a gal in his life that appreciates all the work I'm putting into this training.

Getting rid of the grody

When we bought our house, some parts were definitely worse than others.  One of the worst was the blue bathroom.  It was old.  And gross. And blue.

So, now that the kitchen is squared away, we figured we better rip something else up.  And what better thing to get rid of than the Blue Behemoth (aka the bathtub).

Here's what Little Spaghetti thinks about the demolition.  It's loud.

But it will be worth it.  Because, really, who wants these yucky blue speckled tiles and their mildew?  I told you it was gross.

This is Baby Blue: The sink that matches the bathtub.  Say hello.  And goobye, because this is the last time you'll be seeing him.

And then there's this nasty water-damaged wall.
And the lovely hole behind the toilet.

One last photo to show you that there is hope for this bathroom.  Here we are mid-demolition.  Am I crazy or does it look better already?

Well, I can assure you one thing.  It feels better already.  There's something so wonderful about getting rid of all that grody.

Stay tuned...hopefully I'll have more progress to share sooner rather than later.
